Sheep Eye Dissection

In This Lab You Will
Examine the outside of the preserved sheep eye before trimming.
Open the eye with shallow scissor cuts, or with shallow scalpel cuts under teacher supervision.
Examine the posterior section, then the anterior section.
Complete the pre-lab and the lab write-up.
Materials
Preserved sheep eye, dissecting tray, scissors, forceps, blunt probe, teacher-approved scalpel, protective eyewear, gloves, protective clothing, paper towels, and assigned recording materials.
Safety
Wear protective eyewear and gloves. Keep hands away from your face while working.
Keep the eye supported in the tray and fingers out of the cutting path. Use shallow, controlled cuts.
Have your teacher demonstrate and supervise the initial opening. Do not puncture an eye held in your palm.
Follow classroom directions for preservative handling, storage, and disposal. Wash your hands after cleanup.
